City Police to Impose Ticketing Policy on Jl MH Thamrin

On January 18, the tolerance for motorists who pass along Jalan MH Thamrin (Hotel Indonesia) to Medan Merdeka Barat is no longer applicable. Later, all riders who still determined to pass will be ticketed by the police.

"We will do policing with a ticket on January 18," said Public Relations Division Head (Kabid) of Jakarta Police, Sr. Comr. Martinus Sitompul after meeting with Jakarta Governor, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, at City Hall, Wednesday (1/14).

He added, his side with the Jakarta Transportation Department are still completing the road with markings, so the motorists who violate traffic can be ticketed.

Motorcycle Ban Expansion Plan Dismissed

Previously, the Jakarta Police also provided the information regarding any region that will be used for expansion of the policy.

"The expansion of the policy is still not exists. The city government still maintains Jalan MH Thamrin for the application area of the policy due to free bus availability in the area.

Sitompul revealed, the motorcycle ban passing policy has succeeded reducing the traffic congestion at Bundaran HI to Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat. As a result, the private vehicles and mass transports become more comfortable to driving in the area.

"This policy success to reduce congestion symbols almost 30-40 percent. People who crossing the street are comfortable and they've been able to predict the travel time," he added.

Meanwhile, Dirlantas City Police, Sr. Comr. Risyapudin Nursin explained, people who violate the rule will be ticketed at Rp 500 thousand or 2 months confinement.

"The riders who violate the traffic signs will be ticketed with a maximum fine of Rp 500 thousand or 2 months in prison," he explained.

According to Nursin, his side ready to provide a small place along the prosecutor to hold a stationary judgment.

"The stationary trial can facilitate the citizens. We can provide terminal justice system. But if you want a trial in the respective areas, we also allow," he said.
